On Saturday, November 15, volunteers and staff attended the Farrington Thanksgiving Outreach. The heart of the outreach is about individuals getting in the lives of people and intervening on behalf of others. In fact, Beth Farrington was someone who mobilized thousands of individuals to stand in the gap of injustice to serve others. She used her resources to bless people in need and was a great advocate of SF City Impact. Beth passed away a few years ago, but her mission is carried on her husband, Jeff, who is also a major advocate for SF City Impact.
Volunteers were separated between three briefing sites to learn more about the Tenderloin district of San Francisco and SF City Impact. Leaders shared how 3,000 children in the Tenderloin live in this difficult environment each day. An opportunity was given to intervene and sponsor a child at SF City Academy (SFCA) to help close the education gap and equip the youth in the Tenderloin. Select SFCA teachers stood up to announce the need for three more teachers at SFCA and daily volunteers.
Volunteers and staff moved to their work sites and started to prep and cook meals. Still others began a more in-depth briefing of understanding the cycle of trauma-addiction-isolation and how to break into conversation before delivering meals to Tenderloin residents. A sit down dinner was hosted by New Life Church, Alamo at the SF Rescue Mission. Guests from the community were invited and enjoyed a warm Thanksgiving meal.
