Here are 15 ways you can get directly involved this year to help intervene in the inner city of San Francisco.
The school has shifted to a new direct instruction curriculum. Many volunteer roles are being restructured to come alongside teachers and more effectively support them. Volunteers can work with students to write letters to sponsors, assist teachers with administrative work, and help out after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Experienced cooks and chefs are needed throughout the week and on Sundays for outreach. Each week requires a consistent output from the kitchen to provide for outreaches and programs. In Spring and Summer months, cooks are needed on any given day.
Work with TL Thrift staff, and help restore dignity by providing low cost clothing and items to the community. TL Made is available for experienced artists, merchandisers or designers to assist other artists or designers in creating quality products.
Adopt a Building / Medical House Calls
Come alongside a consistent and passionate volunteer base on mission to reach every floor and every door of the Tenderloin. Deliver food, meet needs and build relationships around the community. Health professionals can get involved with the mobile medical team and meet residents in need of medical attention.
Rescue Mission / Health & Wellness Clinic
Serve food to the homeless and hungry every day. Work with volunteer and leaders from the Tenderloin community. Health professionals can work at the clinic and provide urgent care to the residents for free.
Lead worship throughout the week and help bring new songs to the Tenderloin. Perform 2-4 songs at the Rescue Mission to help encourage the people we serve.
Capture what's going on in the Tenderloin and help tell a story through video and images of the community.
Assist the communications team to share stories with supporters and the community by designing content on Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and After Effects.
Empower the administration team by addressing any technical issues or thinking creatively to improve technical systems.
Assist the administration team with behind the scenes work of organization and updating information, and delivering content to different audiences, .
Teach the Discipleship Home classes a couple days week and help raise up leaders within the Tenderloin. Men have the opportunity to volunteer and spend a full day or night with the Discipleship Home.
Come alongside other leaders to learn and be trained and equipped for future events to lead and teach others.
Lead volunteers and community service members that get involved throughout the week. There is a high demand for leaders from March to December.
Sponsor a Student at San Francisco City Academy
Sponsoring a student is much more than just providing education and resources for a child. Sponsors get to write and interact with their child to develop a relationship. Schedule a lunch and share a conversation over a meal with a student. A positive relationship and role model is very impactful in a young child's life.
