Over 530 volunteers served on their Christmas day to intervene on behalf of the people in the inner city of San Francisco. Some of the outreaches included a Kid’s Christmas Party and sit-down meal right on the 200 Block of Jones St., a Beauty area full of haircuts and manicures, a clothing giveaway and meal delivery to those most isolated.
The Christmas Day outreach concludes the last of the Holiday events to make short term connections today to reap long term investments tomorrow. Follow ups will go on the next few weeks and months to connect residents to community, resources and relationships. Below are a few of the ongoing ministries that follow up with many residents:
Adopt a Building
Volunteers gather every Sunday at 2 PM at 230 Jones St. and go out to adopted buildings on Sundays and throughout the week to build long term relationships and see lives change over time.
Volunteers help serve hundreds of residents every day through a morning and evening service, a care host program (grocery delivery), grocery signups, a personal development program, and many more community engagement activities.
Health & Wellness Center
Healthcare professionals help heal and pray for thousands of residents, and fill in a large gap as healthcare advocates. The house calls program in meeting residents where they are is led by an incredible core team of staff nurses and a staff physician.
The thrift store restores dignity to the community as residents feel valued to shop at a store they can afford. Volunteers organize incoming stock or connect with residents. The thrift store uniquely serves as a place of refuge to many women in the inner city.
Volunteers help connect and work with many children in need of mentorship and consistency. From 10 - 30 children will come in every week for games, community, food and to hear a message of hope.
SF City Academy
Our K-8 school was the first school in the Tenderloin District (inner city). 120 kids now attend a school where teachers go above and beyond to intervene on their behalf. We are currently looking for two full time teachers for the 2016-2017 school year. Volunteers come in every day to mentor and help develop skills of students.
The social services department goes the distance when intervening on behalf of those in desperate need of resources. Whether it’s housing, transportation, dignity, or personal development, this is a department born from a changed life helping change lives.
City Impact exists to intervene on behalf of the people in the inner city of San Francisco. City Impact is an inner city church that mobilizes people intervene through 14 ministries, including those mentioned above.
Thank you to all the volunteers who helped serve and give on Christmas Day!
