San Francisco City Impact exists to intervene on behalf of the people in the inner city of San Francisco. For 34 years we have served the homeless, and at-risk children in the Tenderloin (inner city of SF). We mobilize over 10,000 volunteers a year through to intervene on behalf of others.
Here are 18 different ways you can get involved with City Impact and make a difference this year.

San Francisco City Academy
1. SPONSOR A CHILD
You can empower, encourage and equip a child with education by sponsoring for $38/month. In a crowded and impoverished area like the Tenderloin, there are also 3,000 children. A child without support while experiencing trauma at an early age leads to addiction and isolation with every behavioral and learning disability symptom along the way. Your monthly $38 sponsorship provides more than a financial gift and supplies, YOU ARE THE GIFT to your child through letter correspondence, visitation, and prayer. You can show a child a brighter world than the darkness around them.
2. MENTOR A CHILD
You can meet with a K-8 student on a regular basis to come alongside their goals, and be a powerful influence to inspire and encourage them. Through our mentorship program, many students have been inspired to apply to schools of their choice or pursue a dream. Mentors have great joys to invest deeply in their child.
3. AIDE A CLASS
You can be an aide in a classroom to help provide stability for a K-8 class. Assist a teacher by visiting M-F, 8 AM to 3 PM on a regular basis to work with students and solve problems creatively. Responsibilities may include organizing books, reading with students, facilitating reading quizzes, organizing scores and reports, and managing a child’s behavior.
4. SERVE LUNCH TO KIDS
You can help feed our hungry K-8 students and facilitate a clean and safe lunch period. Our K-8 school offers free lunch to our students every day. Prepare the food, help clean up and wipe down tables, serve plates to each student or help give drink refills.
5. COOK MEALS FOR KIDS & THE HOMELESS
You can help cook lunch for over 100 K-8 students or 300 homeless. Our commercial kitchen cooks over 150,000 meals for people in the community. Food is the language spoken to many people in the community and the heartbeat and driving force to many of our ministries and outreaches.
6. ENGAGE KIDS WITH ART, MUSIC & GAMES
Engage with kids in a high energy and positive environment filled with arts and crafts, games, worship, and an encouraging message followed by lunch! Make every Saturday Super for our young kids! Super Saturday is one of City Impact's first programs started and is located at 230 Jones St on Saturdays at 10 AM.
7. LEAD OR ASSIST AT KIDS CHAPEL
Help share an encouraging and interactive message to our K-8 Students on Wednesday mornings! Equivalent to a youth message for ages 5-13. Assist in the background to provide a safe environment of worship and redirect a child to manage behavior.
Adopt a Building
8. DELIVER A MEAL TO SOMEONE WHO IS SHUT-IN
Adopt a Building is a long term volunteer opportunity to deliver meals and build relationships with people who are shut-in. This is a very relational and intentional ministry to people who may have no one else to care or look for them. Our vision is to adopt all 305 buildings with 30,000 residents in the inner city of San Francisco.
Health & Wellness Center
9. VOLUNTEER AS A HEALTH PROFESSIONAL
Health professionals can volunteer at the clinic and provide specialized and urgent care to the homeless and low income residents. We serve over 2,000 patients each year. Our volunteer providers are encouraged to uncover the emotional root causes to many of our clients’ chronic diseases.
10. FEED THE HOMELESS
Serve food to the homeless and hungry during the week. Come alongside indigenous leaders and School of Ministry students to serve others in the community. Our Rescue Mission welcomes people every day Monday through Friday and acts as respite home for many hurting people.
11. ASSIST IN SOCIAL WORK
You can help someone off the streets to get them housed. Impact someone by assisting in our Social Services department and coming alongside them every step of the way. Many of the homeless people are in need of education and advocacy on the resources available to them. Sometimes it’s not a matter of availability but of encouragement and walking through each process.
12. WORK IN THE THRIFT STORE
Help organize our stock or give direct customer service to others. The City Impact Thrift Store is one of the only thrift stores in the Tenderloin District. We not only serve as a low-income store to restore dignity to people in the community, we serve as a place of refuge for vulnerable women and men in need of help.
Tell a story of City Impact and the Tenderloin through video and still images. Capture the work going on day to day. Help edit photos or footage remotely to develop new content. Photographers and Videographers are always needed throughout the year and especially at events.
14. GRAPHIC DESIGN
Assist the communications & marketing team to share stories through digital avenues. Design content on Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and After Effects. Graphic designers can work remotely and share the message of City Impact and the Tenderloin to the world.
15. TECH SUPPORT
Empower the administration team by addressing any technical issues or thinking creatively to improve technical systems in each building.
This is another expanding year for building out ministry spaces. Help build new classrooms, apartments, and renovate buildings to help expand the growing reach of San Francisco City Impact.
17. VOLUNTEER WITH YOUR COMPANY
Volunteer with your company at City Impact to make a greater impact in 2018! Host 5-25 team members at our K-8 School, or Rescue Mission. Plan a larger group up to 500 to serve through City Impact across our 11 ministries including meal deliveries, building parties, thrift store, health and wellness, and more! Companies like Google, Facebook, San Francisco 49ers, Salesforce, San Francisco Giants, Genentech and Thrivent Financial have made a difference at City Impact.

18. HELP DEEP CLEAN OUR FACILITIES
Help clean our spaces that host over 10,000 people a year and require ongoing maintenance. Be a servant leader by cleaning a bathroom, hallway, stairwell or classroom. One of our core values is Humility: We are not above the people we serve; we are not above mopping floors.
