OVERVIEW

ROLE SUMMARY

Assist with daily tasks related to running the store: receiving and sorting merchandise, unloading donated merchandise, working with volunteers in sorting, pricing, cashiering, and merchandising activities, providing excellent customer service both in the Shop and over the phone, and other tasks as needed.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, and materials

  • Assist with receiving and sorting merchandise

  • Assist customers with unloading donations

  • Unload donated merchandise at Thrift Shop

  • Assist with receiving, sorting, and pricing merchandise

  • Assist with moving and arranging merchandise on Shop floor

  • Provide tasks for volunteers on daily tasks

  • Mobilize Missions teams and volunteers to clean, sort, organize, and tag clothing

  • Train School of Ministry students during their rotations. Assign duties as needed.

  • Work collaboratively with volunteers and provides ongoing support and guidance

  • Oversee community service workers

  • Opens and closes

  • Answer the phone in a professional manner

    Work as cashier lead, train volunteers on the floor, cash register, and pricing as appropriate

  • Other Shop responsibilities as assigned by the Manager

  • Contribute to the team, utilize team resources, support team decisions, and maintain positive working relationships with all team members

  • Demonstrate effective verbal, written, and electronic communication skills; gives and receives feedback in a timely open manner; engages collaboratively in conflict resolution processes as needed

  • Is flexible and responsive in meeting and exceeding the expectations of all customers, both internal and external

  • Is competent using information and technology systems

 

WORK CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Able to perform strenuous physical activities associated with the operations of the Thrift Shop, i.e., lifting, carrying with and without assistance, pushing, and sliding

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. with assistance

  • Able to stand, stoop, and reach frequently and throughout the work day

  • This position requires active physical energy; able to maintain productivity in this environment throughout the work day and work week.

  • Able to work under expectations of meeting deadlines and changing priorities

  • Able to operate normal business machines such as, but not limited to, computers, cell phones, and copiers

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have an intimate, personal relationship with Jesus Christ

  • Must have compatible theology on major issues of SFCI’s Statement of Faith

  • Must be committed to serving God and the body of Christ

  • Minimum high school diploma.

  • Minimum one year experience in retail, preferably in the thrift, consignment, or used merchandise sales industry.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Must be able to demonstrate computer competency

Monday-Friday; select weekends and holidays

HOURS

40 hours per week; Non-Exempt
